Overview of project organized by SLOGA during the Slovenian presidency
Project will have the following themes:
- Development Education
- Climate change
- Trafficking of women and girls
- Intergenerational dialogue
- Economic migration, focusing on women and children
- Unaccompanied and separated children
Project in general
SLOGA has prepared project activities for the first half of the presidency and hand over to European commission. The project has been accepted and it will last for 1 year, from October 2007 to October 2008.
SLOGA will organize 3-4 smaller activities with international participation and couple national seminars with specific theme.
During the presidency, SLOGA would like to bring closer Slovenian government institutions and nongovernmental organization. The main theme will be development education merely because it has European (especially close with German and Polish platforms) enlargement and is near to platform members.
SLOGA task
SLOGA’s task is not on only to hold a mirror up to the Government, but also to be critical of its own activities and, in general, activities in the fields of development cooperation. It should set in motion of critical dialogue regarding the principles and content of development aid, verify its effectiveness, and work in a spirit of intercultural dialogue, rather that a neo-colonial imposition of the concept of development held by ‘the North’, for this has frequently been shown not to lead to the kind of development the world needs, but merely to an increase in the gap between rich and poor, to environmental damage and to instability. The challenge, then, is to shift the borders of perception from ‘North and South’ towards different, better models of development-irrespective of their geographical origin-based on global partnership, equality and respect for difference.
