History

The process of establishing a national platform for development cooperation and humanitarian aid in Slovenia lasted for five years. Slovenian NGDO platform for development cooperation and humanitarian aid - SLOGA was established in December 2005. It unites more than 24 Slovenian NGDOs.

The first NGO initiative for the creation of a national platform dates back to the year 2001. A group of interested NGOs formed an informal NGO-coalition for cooperation with MFA and other relevant national and European stakeholders. The coalition was operating as a working group, under the framework of CNVOS, Center for information service, cooperation and development of NGOs.
Another attempt was made in the same context at the end of 2002. Both attempts were unsuccessful because of the lack of MFA interest for cooperation.

The third initiative for establishing Slovenian NGDO platform was made in 2004; after the visit of DG Development and ECHO representative to Ljubljana. It was led by Seecran in cooperation with several NGOs. The process lasted for one year and a half untill December 2005, when 19 Slovenian NGDOs formed the Slovenian NGDO platform for development cooperation and humanitarian aid -SLOGA. The founders' interest was to join forces and consequently build the capacity of Slovenian non-governmental and non-profit organisations, active in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. The platform was registered in legal subject evidence by the Court of Ljubljana in February 2006.

Sloga has joined CONCORD, the umbrella organisation of European Non-Governmental Development Organisations-NGDOs, one year before the start of the European Presidency that Slovenia will hold in 2008. By the assistance of Concord and Trialog, the consortium project of the European Commission for development and enhancement of the capacities of New Member States NGOs in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid, Sloga is setting up strong links with other European NGOs and platforms.
